New Release Tuesday – 2/14/23

Happy Valentine’s Day…and New Release Tuesday! Today’s list is quite long. I hope you find your next literary love in this selection – I did!

End of Story by Kylie Scott – The latest installment from four-time Australian Romance Writer of the Year is perfect for Valentine’s Day! Part romantic comedy, part “The Lake House”, this novel delivers an opposites-attract vibe with hints of mystery. I can see this one becoming a movie!

The Sun Walks Down by Fiona McFarlane – A boy goes missing during a dust storm in a small Australian town. In the search to recover him, the townspeople investigate their relationships with one another and their beliefs. Told in a multi-narrator manner, this storyline will bring colonial life to the reader in a way that connects it to the racial and class struggles still present today.

Death of a Traitor by M.C. Beaton and R.W. Green – Hamish Macbeth is back for his latest mystery! Here, Macbeth is charged with looking into the disappearance of a local woman but his investigation is hindered by lies, deceit, and scandal. This long-running series has been a reading pleasure and I can’t wait to dig in to this one.

The Last Orphan by Gregg Hurwitz – Another long-running series is delivering a new installment today. Orphan X has been running from the government who developed him into an assassin. But now the government has found him and delivered an ultimatum – use his skills to kill a high-ranking man, or face death himself.

Bright and Deadly Things by Lexie Elliott – The author of The French Girl is back with her latest thriller! A widow, a group of friends, and some very odd happenings. This book sounds like an edge-of-your-seat mystery! By the way – I don’t know that I’ve read a more diverse biography of an author…Elliott graduated from Oxford with a doctorate in theoretical physics, but now works in fund management and literature!

Shine Bright by Danyel Smith (paperback edition) – This novel has been on the market, but the paperback edition is released today. This look at the influence of black women in American pop music tracks culture from enslaved women through recent stars. It feels like part biography, part memoir, part tribute to the soundtrack of our country and is a must read for anyone interested in the music industry.

Unscripted by James B Stewart and Rachel Abrams – In 2016, the media empires of Paramount and CBS came close to crashing down. The Redstone Family and Les Moonves went to battle, but what came out was scandal about inappropriate relationships that set a change in motion across all media companies. Written by two Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists, this promises to deliver new details about stories that made up some of the most well-known headlines of the last decade. If you enjoyed She Said, you will enjoy this book.

Stone Cold Fox by Rachel Koller Croft – This is a debut novel from a screenwriter on projects for Comedy Central and Sony among other companies. A lifelong con-woman looking to make a new life for herself finds a new mark. Jealousy, mystery, and a good dose of outsmarting the rich and powerful, this novel is a triller for the ages.

Kids’ Books releasing today

How Many Squirrels Are In The World? by Mister G and Marcos Almada Rivero – Our family has an inside joke about squirrels being Dad’s “people”, so we love all books about squirrels (our favorite is That’s Not My Squirrel). Using Mister G’s lyrics, this funny book follows a little girl who is counting all the squirrels in town…but they move so fast! The question is: has she already counted these animals, or are there really this many around?

What’s Inside A Flower by Rachel Ignotofsky – Do you have a tiny natural scientist like me? My son loves being outdoors and has SO many questions about everything we encounter. Written by the New York Times bestselling author behind Women in Science, this picture book promises to be a great resource for kids and adults alike.

Eric Loves Animals by Eric Carle – If your tiny reader loves The Very Hungry Caterpillar, you should grab this book for them, too! More of an encyclopedia than a picture book, Carle delivers a treasure trove of animal drawings complete with flaps and peekaboo holes. The book is alphabetically organized and includes our favorite Carle characters, along with a lot of great new friends!

Dear Student by Elly Swartz (paperback edition) – if your middle grades reader hasn’t already read this book, pick up the new paperback edition for them! This book addresses peer pressure, friendship, and standing up for yourself through a storyline about a middle school student who is chosen to be the secret writer of the school paper advice column. The student is looking to make new friends after her best friend moves away, but writing the advice column puts her in an interesting position. When her identity as the writer is about to be revealed, she has to find a way to stand up for herself and what she knows is right.

Super Pancake by Megan Wagner Lloyd and Abhi Alwar – my husband loves reading graphic novels with our son and I can’t wait to listen to them reading this one. Peggy the pancake has to defend her home of Breakfast Town. With a full cast of breakfast food characters like the Bacon Bullies and the evil Dr. Breakfast Sandwich, I can hear the giggles coming now!

Miss Banks Pulls Lots of Pranks by Dan Gutman and Jim Paillot – are you looking for a new series to start with your kids? Here’s a great opportunity! From the My Weird School team, this new series My Weirdtastic School delivers chapters of laughs for kids and adults! If you like Sideways Stories from Wayside School, I think you’re going to love this one!
