I love independent bookstores! These businesspeople are bibliophiles at heart like me, and are supporting their families by selling books…and feeding my reading addiction. So what makes me love an indie shop? It’s the care, the atmosphere, the selection, and the random gems you can find on the shelves! I took these photos earlier this week when my hubby and I started date night with a trip to a new indie favorite nearby.

A Novel Experience in Zebulon, Georgia, is a recent find for me. Sitting on the square of this beautiful little town, this amazing store is full of character! I was surprised at how large a selection the store has of both new and used books. They also feature paintings from a local artist, and some great recommendations for my next read! I’m excited to try out their upcoming book clubs. If you are local, you should stop by for one, too!
But stopping by a bookstore during business hours isn’t always easy. There’s another local store that’s only open 11-5PM Wednesday through Saturday, making it almost impossible for me to make it there between my day job and family commitments. And most of these indie shops don’t have ecommerce websites to allow you to patronize them the way we do those big national online retailers.
That’s why I got so excited when I found out about two great websites – Bookshop and Libro. Both sites allow you to support indie shops either directly by shopping the stores’ own pages, or shopping the website as a whole where all proceeds are split between the indie shop members.
I started my own Bookshop page that will allow me to create lists of book recommendations and allow you to support this blog by purchasing from my links. Moving forward, I’ll be linking to Bookshop listings instead of Kindle or other retailers. This includes links on my New Release Tuesday pages.
Before we get to the next Tuesday post though, I want you to have the opportunity to win a $300 gift card for Bookshop. They are offering this chance in honor of their third birthday, and I think we should celebrate with them! As the image at the top of this page explains, purchasing any book on Bookshop will qualify you for the drawing.
If you are wondering what book you should buy today, here’s a couple of great recommendations:
Take My Hand by Dolen Perkins-Valdez – this might be my top-rated book for January. The month’s not over yet, but this one really stuck with me.
Wild Dances by William Lee Adams – while you’d only be pre-ordering this book if you purchase today, I urge you to do just that! Written by an author I first met when we were just 9 years old, I received an ARC of this book earlier this week and will be posting my full review in the next few days.
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Void where prohibited. US only, age 18+. Ends 1/28/23 at 11:59PM EDT. See official rules: https://bit.ly/3CVfhLK
